How we workTyche.Black / St. Moritz

Taste and judgement first. Then the machine.

Two partners make every call. Two systems we built and own carry the mechanical load. The people you hire are the people doing the thinking.

How we work / Tyche.Black

How value is built.

Sergio Mottola · strategy, capital, technology, regulation.

Sergio maps. Before he argues a position he wants the structure on the table: the model, the money, the rules, the technology, and the moves each makes possible two steps out. Lloyd’s and the London insurance market taught him that first. He trained in strategy research at Bayes Business School (then Cass) with the Baden-Fuller group.

San Marino asked him for a development plan and received one that told a state to write the rule before it built the science park. He designed the San Marino Innovation Institute and ran it as executive chairman; the digital-asset decree it drafted was adopted in 2019.

He built the firm’s own systems: Tyche Intelligence and the operational layer.

He answers the first question: will it pay?

How value is wanted.

Giulia Maresca · product, brand, culture, creative direction.

She sees what people will want before the market does. More than twenty years in luxury and fashion, inside the houses where the object is the business. At Tod’s she launched the men’s accessories line. At Moncler she designed the accessories from the early years under Remo Ruffini. At Christian Louboutin she built the handbag line into a core category. At AllSaints she built the accessories team and the category. At Emilio Pucci, leather goods, footwear and accessories.

Now she creates products, stories and businesses across fashion, wellness, longevity and entertainment, among them a period series in development.

She answers the second question: will anyone want it?

Taste and judgement are not delegated. Execution is.

Here the line runs between people and machine, not between senior and junior.

The partners own

  • The question worth asking
  • The frame and the priorities
  • What people will want, and what will pay
  • The call, and every line that is signed

The systems own

  • The research, kept current
  • The models and the numbers
  • The iterations and the prototypes
  • The memory of what was tried

Two minds. One judgement.

Will it pay? Will anyone want it? Sergio answers the first: the model, the economics, what lasts. Giulia answers the second: what people will choose, and why.

On every engagement the partner whose question the decision turns on leads, and the other brings the half they do not lead. Sergio leads on growth, the investment case and what AI is for. Giulia leads on what a brand, a product or an experience should become. You may meet one of us or both; every engagement says which.

We take a small number of mandates at a time. If we cannot be in the room on your timetable, we say so before the Session.

A research system that argues with itself.

Tyche Intelligence watches markets, capital and culture: what is being financed, what is being bought, what is being made and talked about, and where the three disagree. It forms competing views and tests them against each other before anything reaches us. Dissent is kept with the decision.

What it learns about markets, capital and culture, it keeps. What a client tells us stays with that client.

The machine does the hours. A partner signs the page.

Research, modelling, analysis, iteration, prototyping: the work an engagement needs while the idea is still being argued. You see the result in the room and in the memo: the decision taken apart, the market sized, the case stressed, the field mapped, the rules that apply, what taste is doing, a concept that can be seen before it is built.

Your material is stored on infrastructure we own, in Switzerland. The one thing we rent is model inference: the models read what the work needs, and what they see never trains an outside model. Code and memory are ours.

Specialists, chosen after the question.

When an engagement needs a hand we do not have (a production designer, a sector operator, counsel in a particular jurisdiction) we bring in the one person the problem needs, for the part of the work that needs them. Chosen after the question is understood, never before.

Meet the two people who will do the work.
